About the Book: How Old Is the House challenges many popular beliefs about scientific theories and scientific issues. Arguments both for and against popular theories and issues are presented so that you can make your own decisions as to what to believe. The Introduction is about a house that is either new or 150 years old- perhaps you can figure it out. Read the Introduction to the book and add your comments to the web log or send questions to the author. Items you can view are shown at the left below. |

References: The following are some Internet references that were used in gathering material for this book and other related sites that may be of interest to readers. A brief description of the related material on each site is included. All sites were active URL's (at least when they were added) and can be visited by clicking on them. Some of the sites have since been moved or removed. http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/science/mysteries_l1/age.html This site is part of NASA and briefly describes how the age and size of the Universe is measured. Potential problems with the Big Bang theory are discussed. http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/mystery_monday_040712.html This site gives a brief history of the theory of "dark matter" and "dark energy" and indicates that we don't really know what it is but it dominates the Universe. http://inventing-solutions.com/sa-short.htm This reference is a highly technical site that shows why there is no need for dark matter, dark energy or an accelerating expansion of the Universe and that we should reevaluate the Big Bang. http://www.creationresearch.org/crsq/articles/39/39_1/GeoMag.htm This site describes the Earth's magnetic field and how it continues to decline. The information is highly technical. http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm This site describes the Petition Project study results of the environmental effects of increased carbon dioxide on global warming and mankind. Its conclusions are that increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are beneficial. It was signed by over 17,000 persons, many of whom are scientists. http://www.abiblestudy.com/ This web site contains a complete Bible time line from the Creation up through the time of Christ. It is very comprehensive and ties in dates with the appropriate Bible verses. http://members.aol.com/adobebill/E_EvMan.html This site describes the evolution of man as proposed by many evolutionists as apes slowly evolving to walk upright and shows that most of the examples are not valid. http://www.reasons.org/resources/apologetics/design_evidences/1998_design This web site describes the great number of physical properties in our solar system that must be in very narrow ranges for man to exist. The conclusion is that it all must have been designed and that the probability that another location like ours exists in the Universe is very unlikely. http://www.arkdiscovery.com/noah's_ark.htm This web site appears to be a treasure house of information on Noah's Ark and other popular Biblical events including the location of the crossing of the Red Sea, Sodom & Gomorrah, the Ark of the Covenant, etc. Other researchers have tested the location of Noah's Ark and think that it is a natural formation which casts suspicion on the other findings. It is a very entertaining site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution The on-line encyclopedia Wikipedia is a good source of information for most subjects. The definitions and explanations are well done and the information comes from many sources. This entry on Evolution follows the politically correct view that Evolution is the way that living things came to exist and that the scientific community, in general, has rejected other potential theories about the origin of life. http://www.uic.com.au/nip08.htm This site compares the costs of the various forms of electrical energy. It indicates that nuclear power is the lowest cost source except at locations where major supplies of coal exist such as in the United States. http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=1281 This site from Capitalism Magazine refutes the notion that the polar ice caps are shrinking and indicates that the polar ice mass is increasing. It also shows that satellite temperature measurements do not support the claims of general global warming. http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends_global.shtml This link takes you directly to the NOAA sea level charts where long term sea level changes can be observed for many locations around the globe. These charts only cover up to the year 2000, but if you click on the monthly change chart on the bottom of each large chart, you can get a large chart on the monthly sea level changes from 1980 up to the year 2007. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4565935.stm This BBC News site reports that the ice sheet covering the interior of Antarctica is thickening and indicates that it may be a result of global warming. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html This link is to a National Geographic News article where a scientist explains that Mars is also warming and that the Sun is responsible for most global warming. http://www.ipcc.ch/ This is the home page for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which attributes most of the recent environmental changes to the activities of humans. The site contains many easy to locate summary reports. http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/ggccebro/chapter1.html This web site has a chart showing the carbon dioxide entering and leaving the atmosphere from various sources and the buildup in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/facts/00-077.htm The use of carbon dioxide enhancement for greenhouses is shown at this web site. Carbon dioxide gas is added to greenhouses to enhance plant growth. Double or triple the current amount in the atmosphere is generally recommended for optimum plant growth. http://www.discovery.org/ This is the site of the Discovery Institute. This organization reports on intelligent design versus evolution issues and many other scientific theories that are also mentioned in the book. Many of the writings are quite technical. Philosophical issues appear to be the main subjects covered at this very professional site. http://www.arn.org/authors/behe.html This is the author web site for Michael Behe who is an author and Professor of Biochemistry. He testified at the trial in Harrisburg in favor of the Theory of Intelligent Design. He is a member of the Discovery Institute. http://www.co2science.org/scripts/CO2ScienceB2C/Index.jsp This web site shows that both global warming and carbon dioxide variations are in normal ranges and neither are harmful to man. Many statistics are provided. http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ This site includes a comprehensive list of early Christian writings including the estimated dates when they were written. One very interesting non-Biblical writing is the Acts of Pilate. http://www.chem.duke.edu/~jds/cruise_chem/Exobiology/miller.html The Miller/Urey experiment is described at this site. An organic soup was used in an attempt to demonstrate that life could arise from inorganic materials by natural processes.http://www.christian-thinktank.com/gilgy09.html This web site describes and compares the various accounts of the great flood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near-death_experience Near death experiences are quite common. This site explains what they consist of and gives some statistics on frequency and studies that were conducted on this subject.
